Cannabis Honey

Cannabis Honey

Would you ditch some of the refined sugar in your diet if you could replace it with a cannabis product? Cannabis and honey!

Even without tasting it you know, this is going to be something special.

Both of these well-loved natural products have been linked to beneficial effects in a range of studies. Combining them was surely an inevitable next step of this movement.

This combination of honey and cannabis was completed over a thousand years ago when the culinary and medicinal qualities of both substances were combined.

Together, cannabis and honey can take you to places that neither could reach on their own. Creating your own canna honey will give you a discrete and versatile product that will give a sweet high and a reason not to share your breakfast.

How does cannabis and honey become infused?

It is potentially possible to infuse honey with cannabis in two ways: The first can be made by anyone. The second can only be made if you are a reclusive Frenchman with the ability to control specially trained cannabis-seeking bees.

1. Homemade

In the more accessible method cannabis is added to the honey after its production.

The cannabis itself must be decarboxylated and then infused into honey. Decarboxylation is the process in which the THCA in the raw bud gets converted to psychoactive THC. This occurs when you burn the plant to smoke it. When making cannabis honey it must be done in a way that won’t destroy the plant material and the cannabinoids.

Decarboxylation also happens when you vaporize cannabis, so you can always use left over ABV to create your own honey or butter.

2. Trainer Bees

In this method, the cannabis is added by the bees themselves as they manufacture the honey. A man who goes by the name of Nicholas Trainerbees claims that he has trained a swarm of bees to visit only cannabis plants.

He uploaded a video to YouTube showing bees visiting cannabis flowers to collect pollen and nectar. The bees then use it to produce psychoactive honey.

There are lots of doubts surrounding these claims and many bee experts believe that this is an impossible process. Others say that the bees could collect psychoactive particles such as pollen from the flowers. If these are left in the honey it could become canna honey.

What are the benefits of honey?

For thousands of years, honey has played a role as food and medicine. Honey is richer in nutrients than sugar and contains plant extracts and traces of vitamins. While it has been reported to have a positive effect on your whole body it is particularly useful for your heart.

Studies have found that honey can reduce several of the risk factors for heart disease and may even promote wound healing. It can also be a carrier for the benefits of the plants that the bees have visited for nectar.

Benefits once infused with cannabis?

The primary benefit of creating canna honey is that you will have a sweet and tasty delivery system for all the benefits of cannabis. Because honey has many benefits of its own, this pairing means that your body will thank you for each mouthful.

Once the cannabis is infused into the honey, you can then use it in many different ways:

It can be used to sweeten drinks or desserts and even made into dressings. Spreading canna honey on toast is a discrete and enjoyable way of eating cannabis. Many of its active ingredients have been linked to stress relief, pain management and better sleep.

How can I make my own?

Making your own canna honey will give you the freedom to create a product unique to you. Choose your favorite cannabis variety, select the perfect amount and combine it with the tastiest local honey you can find. We’ve put together a simple method to create your canna honey but be sure to adapt it to your own tastes.

Recipe

Decarboxylate your cannabis to activate the THC.

  1. Heat your oven to 240 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Spread your cannabis evenly on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake the cannabis at this temperature for 40 minutes. Make sure you rotate and turn the green regularly for it to cook evenly.

Infusing the honey

You will need:

  • A crockpot
  • Cannabis (how much you use depends on how strong you want your honey)
  • Two cups of honey
  • Cheesecloth
  • String
  • A jar with a lid

Infuse the honey:

  1. Place the cannabis on the cheesecloth and gather it into a pouch. Tie this off with the string.
  2. Put the cheesecloth into the jar, pour the honey over it and loosely close the lid.
  3. Place the jar in a crockpot, and pour water into the pot so that it reaches higher than the level of the honey.
  4. Put the lid on the pot and cook at a low temperature for eight hours.
  5. Check the jar regularly and release any pressure by gently removing the lid. Be careful when handling the hot jar.
  6. Allow everything to cool.
  7. Remove the cheesecloth and squeeze out any honey.
  8. Keep your cannabis-infused honey in the refrigerator.

Conclusion

It is often hard to trust a new recipe with your precious herb but trust me, the gains far out way the risk of loss. Don’t think of it as using up your cannabis but as gaining a refrigerator full of sweet goodies that will get you high!
